Performing an International Repertoire
Boston, October 30, 2008, 8:00pm, Cutler Majestic Theatre at Emerson College – Internationally acclaimed classical-crossover tenor and Sony Classical recording artist, Mario Frangoulis will captivate and inspire his audience with an international repertoire of songs, performing in six languages. Joining him on stage will be lyric soprano, Kristen Watson and they will be accompanied by a chamber orchestra of leading Boston-based musicians, and pianist Theodore Economou, conducted by Steven Karidoyanes.
Mario Frangoulis is a true classical cross-over tenor whose musical range covers everything from a hard-rock anthem to an operatic aria. He has a diverse professional background in theatre, opera, and as a composer. He won the role of Tony in West Side Story at Milan’s La Scala, performed at the opening ceremonies of the Athens 2004 Olympic Games, and has appeared in films, on television, and even in epic presentations of Greek tragedies. His film credits include the role of Alfred Drake from Kiss Me Kate in the film De Lovely, in which he performed the Cole Porter song “So in Love” with world-famous singer Lara Fabian.
Frangoulis is best known for his powerful and charismatic live performances. Porter Anderson from CNN says, “You bask in the glistening dynamics and tonal control he brings to his vocals”; the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel says he has “the kind of tenor sound that brings down the house”; and the Seattle Herald describes his voice as “the caress-and-power combo that’s a half-breath away from exploding into an aria and another breath away from a simple but sensitive pop hook.”
