Prespa lakes in northern Greece to become national park

The area around the Prespa Lakes on Greece's northwest border with Albania and FYROM will become a national park called the 'Prespa National Park' in an attempt to preserve the local ecosystem in the area and promote it to tourists.  Megali Prespa and Mikri Prespa have remained sparsely populated, with military permission being the only way to visit the area until recently.

The Ministry of Environment and Public Works is also moving to protect Lake Kastoria which is near the same area.  Greece has a total of 10 national parks and 2 marine parks.
