DeanMan... ...Hopefully, Greek leaders understand that defense strategy involves more than the accumulation of military weaponry. While Greece has to prepare itself for a worse-case scenario, iy should be mindful that an overemphasis on military options sometimes creates a momentum of it's own. "If all you have is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail", the old saying goes.
Protection Greek security must also involve aggresive use of diplomacy and intelligence gathering. Both can by used to identify future threats to peace, so that they can be defused before they flare up into actual hostilities. Of course good intelligence and a detailed knowlege of one's adversary is alsso essential should conflict erupt. I was particularly impressed by one Greek intelligence succes during the Turkis invasion of Cyprus in 1974. Greek naval officers monitored and could mimic Turkish military communications so effectively that they were able tricked the Turkish Air Force into bombing a Turkish naval warship causing significant damage and casualties.
