Stavros... ...EtE - Stavros...
Don't think of it as rap Ariadne mou, but as a Rhythmic Approach to Poetry ;-) ... Christo hit it on the nail: we are giving poetry a beat that captures the attention of our neolea.... and as far as the lura goes, we do have a video of it on our site - a pentozali.. and 5 downloadable recordings to go with that. We love our folklore more than anything.
Don't be so extreme as to say we are polluting our musical tradition. We are more than fully aware of our tradition, and very proud of it. (and if you take a closer look at our lyrics, you will see that the chorus is heavily influenced by mantinada form --- 15 syllable lines)

kiki... ...what a lively debate!!!
if i may throw in my two drachmes, i agree with dj ouranos. to see such passion for our culture in the diaspora's youth is something to be very thankful for, whatever one's personal musical tastes. i am thankful for them!!!
DJ Ouranos... ...hello my name is DJ Ouranos from ete...i agree with Ariadne and with everybodys views but however the reason we did rap music is because not only like grkphenom02 said thats its popular in greece(trust me i know i live in greece) but with our lyrics we wanna not only reach out stous ellines stin patrida mas but kai stin neolaia tis diasporas, and since rap culture is big in usa and most countries, we thought that they can relate to what we say through rap music. guys n gals i know u people are calling us ethinikistes but being one is not bad; however everything has its limits(pan metron ariston) too much ethnikismos ginete ratsismos KAI DEN EIMASTE. to make it short all i wanna say people stop argueing of what we say(lyrics) how we express out there(rap music) we are doing this not only for fun but to unite and touch hellenes hearts through are lyrics and music..if u think about it, even in the 60's we had hip hop with zabetas singing: kai h vroxa epefte right through(i forgot title song) ,music is universal it doesnt matter if its rap, kalamatiano pontiako, latin, reggeaton etc its the lyrics that make the music not the other way around
filkia se olous efxaristo that u like our vids and songs
on behalf of ete efxaristoume me oloi tin kardia kai psuxi mas
ete dj ouranos
ete panta enomeni!!
p.s i know peeps will disagree with me, but these were my opinions kai san ellines exoume tis dikes mas gnomes kai na syzitame oxi na tsakonomaste.
Ariadne... ...Persephone, I merely asked a few questions. It is you who is preaching. Yes, I've been to their site multiple times since I encountered it about a year ago. I applaud their lyra playing and enjoy it tremendously. Post one of those videos so we can enjoy. But rap music has nothing to do with Greek culture, and it is unnecessary to pollute our musical traditions with ksenomania.
persephone1... ...As a Greek of diaspora who fights for years in this country to maintain the interest of young people in our language, culture and history, I applaud the music and the work of these young guys. They use the Greek language in a great way, they even venture to write poetry, know their history, and take pride in their culture. How inspiring! I only wish that we had more of them! George, there is no “bigotry” in having a dose of “idealism”. What do you do about the Greek image that you seem to be so concerned with? Ariadne, you are preaching to the wrong people: have you seen their website? They play Krhtikh lura and are as comfortable singing and dancing to folklore music. Quite frankly I am more concerned about the fact that the vast majority of our youth in this country does not speak any Greek and has no interest in our culture and history. In fact they would not even know where is Kwnstantinoupolh and how it relates to Greece… Kavafis’ words come to mind: soon the only thing that we have to remind us of our Greekness will be the festivals. So, congratulations to these young people who take pride in their heritage. Keep up the good work!
jkots... ...They're definitely not bigoted and I admire young guys like that who, with Greek as a second language, make an effort to not only sing but also write in it. To defend george20 on one point, there is no doubt that some of their lyrics are naive and silly (dreaming of get Constantinople back? Does that mean hurling out 15 million Turks today?). But they are young and simply expressing their pride, so I don't worry too much.
christos22... ...Ariadne's point is a good one. I wonder, though, if this is not simply poetry put into musical form. If it is true that poetry is part of our cultural tradition, then I'd venture to say that this video is indeed one of the tools with which we have historically expressed ourselves. Go to their website and look at the lyrics and decide for yourself whether or not this has poetic form.
christos22... ...No George, you don't come off as a party-pooper, but as an incompetent person who lacks the power to convince others.
From the dictionary: "A bigot is a prejudiced person who is intolerant of opinions, lifestyles, or identities differing from his or her own."
You still have to prove how their video is intolerant of the opinions of others.
What you have proved is that you have a fear of expressing pride of your Hellenic heritage at the expense of having others not take you seriously.
I'd be more willing to take your argument seriously if you followed your thoughts with some concrete examples.
george20... ...sorry to be a party-pooper but this is awful: horrible taste and bigoted
in the most stupid way. It's stuff like this that make well-meaning people
think that many Greek positions (and Greeks themselves) are over-nationalistic and not to be taken seriously.
Ariadne... ...Do we not have our own tools to express ourselves?... Do we not have our own rich musical tradition?
kyriakos... ...I agree with GrkPhenom02. Guys great job. You get a strong message across through your lyrics and it shows that the neolaia of the diaspora always have Greece in their hearts and minds.
grkphenom02... ...that was great. we need more neolea like that. and greek rapping has become pretty popular as of late and is becoming really good.
