There is a new reason for Greece's fashion fans to jump for joy. Abrand new 13,000 meter shopping mall owned by Elmec Sport AE, opened inearly December located at Athens Airport retail park. The newdevelopment is called Factory Outlet and boasts over 120 shops sellingover 400 international fashion labels marked down 30-70% off theregular prices. Shopping malls are still somewhat of a new concept inGreece, outlet malls even more so, however, the Greek public so far hasbeen very eager to save a few bucks. The new outlet mall is locatednext to IKEA and is accessible via car (900 parking spaces) or by busor metro. Some of the bigger namesrepresented at the outlet include Marc Jacobs, Chloe, Toi&Moi, Gap,Nike, and Converse.
DF: Originally slated to open in Fall of 2005, Factory outlet openedwith much fanfare last month to loads of happy Christmasshoppers....better late than never!

Sotiri... ...But please don't forgett: such schemes are very interesting for international investors. this will support the greek market with more liquidity
Kitaris... ...Good point, Yiannis. It's all about $$$. Isn't it always?
Yiannis... ...On the one hand this is interesting news, on the other it is a bit disturbing too. Will Athens face the same challengesn North American cities face with shoppers prefering the cheaper prices of the big box stores in the suburbs over the smaller neighbourhood or downtown stores? What does it also say about increased car use and commuting?
