dionysis... ...how much time do kids actually spend out of school or school-related activities nowadays? let's be honest.
George... ...The thing that is most promising is that it seems to be a Pan-Orthodox community that is involved in the school. I think that this is the key to maintaining our customs and heritage, rather than by pursuing ethnicity alone. The other positive aspect that I see is that the children are being thoroughly educated in a variety of languages, and since they still live in America and are exposed anytime they are outside school to other cultures, they shouldn't have any of the culture shock mentioned above.
dk... ...this is actually somewhat disturbing. why separate your children by nationality or religion, instead of letting them mix with the rest of society? think of the injustice done to a child when he is culture-shocked upon meeting a latino, a japanese, or an african-american at age 14. i doubt that the christian education is worth all that much. oh, and let's not even start on the utility of ancient greek. at least modern greek will help the kid in conversation.
Betty... ...you adorable little childern
chitown greek... ...this is a great thing i have just read. good work to the father. it looks like he is not even getting embraced by the greek people which is a shame, butan all to typical problem. the non greeks want their kids to be taught in the hellenistic way and realize its potential more than the greeks. the school's curriculum is something i hope the new hellenic academy of chicago tries to include as well. Good luck!!
